Barry High Street is set to host the town's first ever Pride event this month.

Barry Pride will take place on Saturday 21st September 2019 from 12-6pm with an event on the High Street.

The day will be full of fun for all the family and everyone is welcome to join and help celebrate our LGBTQ+ community.

Spectrum Collections who are originally from Barry and famous for their colourful makeup brushes, are sponsoring the event, which will host community stalls, performers, music, speakers, entertainment, food and drink.

Barry Pride are pleased to announce there will be a parade for this year's event, starting at 11:30am at Academy Espresso Bar on Hood Road.

Everyone is welcome to join us but groups should email [email protected] to register.

There are several other events taking place in the week leading up to Pride, including a Q&A panel night on Wednesday 18th September at Academy and a showing of the film 'Time & Again' by Rachel Dax at The Small Space Theatre on Thursday 19th September.

There will be a window display competition for all businesses across Barry and everyone is invited to host an event throughout the day which will be included on a central map. Barry Pride has also received support from the Vale of Glamorgan Council's new event grant which is vital to help bring a variety of first time events to the town.

Sponsors Spectrum Collections said: 'We are so happy to sponsor Barry Pride as local business women but most importantly as part of the local community.

''We've lived in Barry our whole lives and we love the town because of the general warmth of the people who live here too, it's a wonderful place to live and start a business.

''We want to share the feeling of support we had as a start-up and give back to the community through a celebration of love and mutual respect for all Barry residents.

''Barry's first Pride festival feels like an amazing opportunity to do so and we are very excited to celebrate with everyone.'

If you would like to volunteer, host an event or support Barry Pride, please email [email protected]. To find out more visit our event page on Facebook by searching Barry Pride 2019.
