Filming for Doctor Who took place at Cold Knap Beach today.

Jodie Whittaker was spotted filming at the shoreline, as was a weeping angel - blink and you'll miss it.

TV and film set scaffolding lorries, lighting equipment and four black tents appeared at the seafront car park this morning as filming for the show's thirteenth series took place.

Cherish Garfield and Aaron Andrews came to see the filming in action.

"We just finished work at Greggs on Barry Island. A customer had come in and said they were filming Dr Who down here, and that's our favourite show," said Cherish.

"We had to come down and check out what's going on!"

Oliver Williams was out on a run when he saw the filming and managed some close up shots.

"I did jump when the weeping angel moved, I always thought they were just models!," he said.

"Fair play to the cast and crew, they must've been freezing."

The thirteenth series of Doctor Who will be made up of eight episodes, rather than the usual 11.

Episodes are taking longer to film due to strict Covid regulations the cast and crew have to follow.

Talking about the new series, showrunner Chris Chibnall said: "In this strangest of years, the Doctor Who production team have worked wonders to get the show back into production.

"We're thrilled to be back making the show. Given the complexity of making Doctor Who, and with new and rigorous Covid working protocols, it's going to take us a little longer to film each episode.

"But rest assured, the ambition, humour, fun and scares you expect from Doctor Who will all still be firmly in place. For everyone around the world, this is a challenging period - but the Doctor never shirks from a challenge!"

Speculation as to who the next actor to weild the sonic screwdriver will be is rife, after claims that Jodie Whittaker, who plays the first female Doctor, is set to quit the show after the thirteenth series.

The BBC has already revealed that John Bishop joining the cast as 'Dan', the Doctor's latest companion.
