A new festival, due to launch today, celebrating St David's Day in Barry, has been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.

In a statement on Facebook the organisers said: ''Some sad news today, Saturday 29th Feb Dewi Sant Festival is cancelled.

''Due to the adverse weather conditions coming in today, we have made a health and safety decision to cancel the activities in the park.

''James Danter & Sons Fun Fair will continue to operate on King Square.''

Waterlogging of the park has led to health and safety concerns and the organisers decided that they could not continue with the event.

The festivities will go ahead on Sunday as planned.

It was a new event for 2020. Holton Road Traders Association, Shop Local and the Vale of Glamorgan Council had arranged the festival on Holton Road and in Central Park.

With a funfair on Kings Square, Welsh foods, sweets and treats, Welsh crafters, Local Traders and much more.
