After 81 weeks of building, Morgan Sindall Construction has shared images of the new Whitmore High School.

The project, which began in September 2019, ia part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council's 21st Century Schools programme, a partnership with the Welsh Government.

Together, £30.5 million has been invested into the new building.

"We're finally there. 81 weeks after we started it's complete. We cannot wait to see the staff and pupils move in," said Morgan Sindall on Twitter.

The new building is expected to open five months ahead of schedule, a letter from headteacher Innes Robinson to parents revealed:

"On Thursday 6th May, we will be starting life in a truly

superb facility, five months ahead of schedule. The staff have been working hard over lockdown to pack up an entire school ready for the move," he wrote. "However, there will be a requirement for the buildings to be closed to pupils for a number of days to ensure that the site is ready. "Having moved into two new schools, I am aware that the time we have given ourselves to move is very tight. We have reduced it to an absolute minimum due to the impact of Covid. On the four school days that pupils are not in school, teachers will be providing online learning via Google Classrooms." "Thank you again for all your support. As soon as we are able, we look forward to inviting parents in to see the new building." Teaching space is set across three storeys, with 70 general classrooms and two drama studios within the 11,000-meter square site. The facility, which will accommodate 1,100 pupils also includes a specialist suite to help support students with additional learning needs. Indoor and outdoor sporting facilities form part of the development and include an all-weather pitch and multi-use games, court as well as a central courtyard designated for group learning and informal use. In 2019, Cllr Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, said: "The new school with its state-of-the-art facilities will see pupils at Whitmore High given the very best platform for success. "The extensive development taking place at Whitmore High is the latest in a far-reaching series of work being carried out under our 21st Century Schools programme that is the most ambitious ever undertaken in the Vale." The transfer to the new building will allow for the demolition of the existing buildings and creation of new sport facilities, with the project due for completion by spring 2022.
