The site was previously being used as a Coronavirus testing centre.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council's Art Central Gallery is set to reopen on Tuesday following a comprehensive risk assessment and with strict safety measures in place.

It will feature the Women's Arts Association Wales (WAAW) multimedia exhibition, which showcases stunning work from female Welsh artists.

The gallery has been closed during the pandemic and will begin operating again in a carefully controlled manner to keep visitors protected.

Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said: "I'm delighted that we are now able to reopen Art Central and welcome visitors back to see an exciting exhibition.

"Art plays an important role in the lives of many of our residents and the stimulating, uplifting affect it can have is perhaps more important now than ever.

"Artists have had a particularly difficult time over the last nine months, with limited opportunities to showcase and sell their work, so reopening our gallery is an important milestone.

"However, safety is of course of paramount concern and a range of steps have been taken to ensure the public can visit in confidence."

The WAAW exhibition can be viewed by appointment only, with 25-minute slots available for individuals and household bubbles of up to four people.

Both the gallery and foyer have been thoroughly cleaned and over 72 hours has passed since the Test, Trace, Protect (TTP) centre was in operation.

A risk assessment has been carried out and is constantly being reviewed, while a number of other precautionary measures are also in place.

Physical barriers have been installed along with signage encouraging hand hygiene and sanitising gel is available on arrival.

Touching of the artworks is not allowed and visitors and staff are required to wear facemasks in certain areas of the gallery.

Contact details of visitors will also be recorded in order to comply with TTP regulations.

The WAAW support and promote female artists across Wales and have for many years displayed their work at Art Central.

This exhibition celebrates the successes and achievements of the artists, who range from hobbyists to experienced professionals, promoting the cause of gender equality.

It consists of more than 100 artworks, some of which are available to purchase.

The gallery is open 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 1pm and 1pm to 3.30pm on Saturday.
